This region touts a strong educational
record, with the best SAT and
ACT scores in the state, and a national test ranking that is
above-average. The Reno/Tahoe region is comprised of five counties all
of which offer outstanding public services.

WASHOE COUNTY
The County
Washoe County, nestled on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada
Mountains in western Nevada, holds a varied landscape, ranging from
high Sierra peaks to the beaches of Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake, to the
alkali flats of the Black Rock Desert. The county also boasts a diverse
economy and cultural identity. Washoe County borders the states of
California and Oregon to the west and north, respectively. Adjoining
Nevada counties include Carson, Churchill, Humboldt, Lyon, Pershing and
Storey.
The Schools
Like most large school districts, Washoe County's schools include
elementary (grades K-6), middle schools (grades 7 and 8), and high
schools (grades 9-12). In addition, the Regional Technical Institute
offers a wide range of advanced level occupational classes for juniors
and seniors. The Marvin Picollo School serves students from all grade
levels with severe or multiple disabilities. Currently there are 61
elementary schools, 15 middle schools and 12 comprehensive high schools
plus Washoe High School (an alternative school), Truckee Meadows
Community College High School (for juniors and seniors) and the
Regional Technical Institute.
Nineteen elementary schools operate on a non-traditional calendar.
Eight of those schools follow a multi-track schedule and nine operate
on a single-track, year-round schedule. Two operate on a 45/15,
year-round schedule. All Incline Village schools and Natchez Elementary
School are on a modified schedule. All other schools have a traditional

CARSON CITY (MUNICIPALITY)
The City
Carson City, the State's capital is located at the base of the eastern
Sierra Nevada mountain range in west Nevada. It is situated near many
significant landmarks, such as Lake Tahoe 20 minutes to the west,
historic Virginia City 20 minutes to the northeast and Reno 30 minutes
north. The State of California borders Carson City to the west and the
Nevada counties of Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Washoe border the south,
east and north, respectively.
The Schools
The mission of the Carson City School District is to contribute to the
development of successful young adults who will make healthy
contributions to themselves, their families, the State of Nevada, our
great nation and the world. This District operates five elementary
schools, three middle schools and two high schools.
DOUGLAS COUNTY
The County
Douglas County is located at the base of the eastern Sierra Nevada
mountain range in west Nevada. A majority of the county lies in a lush
green valley bounded by monolithic mountain peaks and Lake Tahoe to the
west and the vast Great Basin Desert to the east. Adjoining Douglas are
the counties of Carson City and Lyon to the east and north.
The Schools
Douglas County School District serves the communities of Gardnerville,
Minden, and Lake Tahoe's east shore. Nestled among the Sierra Nevada
Mountains and the high desert sagebrush, these seven elementary
schools, three middle schools, and three high schools provide over
7,000 students with a high quality education.
EL DORADO COUNTY
The County
Any visitor traveling Highway 50 from El Dorado Hills to South Lake
Tahoe will be charmed by the scenic variety this land has to offer. As
you leave high-tech businesses, upscale residences and an ever-growing
variety of leisure activities and continue up the hill, you will
discover magnificent landscapes and panoramic views of vineyards,
orchards and the Crystal Mountain Range.
The Schools
This Lake Tahoe Unified School District is located in El Dorado County
on Lake Tahoe's South Shore in California. The District works
collaboratively with parents and the community to provide a quality
learning environment in which all students develop competence in basic
skill areas and are prepared to be responsible, contributing citizens.
The District oversees eight schools in the area that provide education
from elementary level through high school.
PLACER COUNTY
The County
Placer County serves over 300,000 residents
from
its border with Sacramento County to the Nevada state line. County
communities include Roseville, Lincoln, Rocklin, Loomis, Auburn,
Foresthill, Colfax, Tahoe City and Kings Beach. There's a lot to do in
Placer County, whether you're into extreme sports, fine dining, antique
shopping, hiking and biking, or simply enjoying the beautiful scenery
in and out of the High Sierra.
The Schools
The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District is located in the Sierra
Nevada Mountains, 100 miles northeast of Sacramento, and 35 miles west
of Reno, Nevada. The district serves more than 5000 students in
California's Nevada, Placer and El Dorado Counties (on the north end of
Lake Tahoe). District offices are located in Truckee, California, with
boundaries that stretch from Hobart Mills, eight miles north of
Truckee, to Emerald Bay - near South Lake Tahoe. To the north, they
extend from Cisco Grove - twenty miles to the west and to Floriston -
fifteen miles to the east. The district encompasses more than 720
